McGlinchey’s book ‘The Last of the Name’ will receive a multimedia treatment/ interpretation from this collaboration, with two performances in the North-West during September and October.

In 2007 Finbarr released Across the Water  – an album inspired by The Last of the Name.  He is now re-interpreting those songs in this show with actor Paul Kelly, musicians Seamus Devenny, Campbell Owens and Lorna McLaughlin Henry, artists Marty Kelly, Marie Barrett, and film-maker Paul McCarroll. Margaret Farren, a former member of the McGlinchey summer school, has also been working as part of the production, providing family archival photos, from the era in which McGlinchey lived in Clonmany, which will be part of the show. There will also be contemporary photos from around Inishowen by Des Farren.

Artist Marty Kelly has created a unique series of art work to accompany this show.

The Last of the Name – Culturetech

Saturday, September 14th   5.00pm at Sandino’s, Derry

Featuring Paul Kelly, Finbarr Doherty, Seamus Devenny & Lorna McLaughlin

The Last of the Name (Across the Water)

The Last of the Name is a multi-media creation which combines Social History with Contemporary Music, Visuals and Technology.

It is inspired by the book by Clonmany weaver Charles McGlinchey who died in 1955.  His book has been hailed by Brian Friel, and by Seamus Heaney – who described it as “full of emotional truth and the beauty of immediate, trusting speech, overbrimming with folklore of great imaginative richness”.

This performance will include:

Ø  the words of Charles McGlinchey,

Ø  the music and songs of Finbarr Doherty, (from the ‘Across the Water’ Album)  and

Ø  the visuals of Inishowen – the places and the people.

The event will be filmed by iSeanachai.com, the Culdaff-based Digital Story-tellers. A performance that is eloquent, poetic and dynamic – this one is not to be missed.

Admission: £5 or free with a Conference and Music Pass
