The Last of the Name – Culturetech

Saturday, September 14th   5.00pm at Sandino’s, Derry

Featuring Paul Kelly, Finbarr Doherty, Seamus Devenny & Lorna McLaughlin

The Last of the Name (Across the Water)

The Last of the Name is a multi-media creation which combines Social History with Contemporary Music, Visuals and Technology.

It is inspired by the book by Clonmany weaver Charles McGlinchey who died in 1955.  His book has been hailed by Brian Friel, and by Seamus Heaney – who described it as “full of emotional truth and the beauty of immediate, trusting speech, overbrimming with folklore of great imaginative richness”.

This performance will include:

Ø  the words of Charles McGlinchey,

Ø  the music and songs of Finbarr Doherty, (from the ‘Across the Water’ Album)  and

Ø  the visuals of Inishowen – the places and the people.

The event will be filmed by iSeanachai.com, the Culdaff-based Digital Story-tellers. A performance that is eloquent, poetic and dynamic – this one is not to be missed.

Admission: £5 or free with a Conference and Music Pass
